Cheryl Branz: Music
Blindsided
(Cheryl Branz)
O.K., I was a bit fired up when I wrote this song. I had come up with the chorus idea a few months earlier, but it took a situation where I felt blindsided myself to flesh out the verses. And it really is a cathartic experience every time I sing it.
I was taught to always look twice
First to my left then to my right
I never thought I'd be blindsided
I was taught to always look twice
Once more to my left and right
Still I was blindsided
By you
By you
I was taught to tell the truth
And that's what I expected of you
I never thought you'd be a liar
I was taught to tell the truth
That is what I asked of you
Still I was blindsided
Broken glass
At the scene of the crash
You don't care that I'm bleeding
I'm in shock
From what I've lost
You don't care your leaving
Yes I was taught to say a prayer
When rescue sirens would pierce the air
On the way to someone dying
Yes I was taught to say a prayer
I hear sirens in the air
Now I'm the one that's been blindsided
Broken glass
At the scene of the crash
You don't care that I'm bleeding
I'm in shock
From what I've lost
You don't care your leaving
I was taught to always look twice
First to my left then to my right
I never thought I'd be blindsided
Yes I was taught to always look twice
Once more to my left and right
Still I was blindsided
