I Judge Myself

(Cheryl Branz)
One of my favorite publications these days is SUN magazine. I wrote this song after reading the letters to the editor one month with wildly opposing viewpoints on how we as a society should get to where we want to be.

I judge myself by my intentions
You I judge by your actions
That is why I believe
We're on opposing sides
I judge myself by my intentions
You I judge by your actions
Do you see the hypocrisy
Oh it makes me blind
Oh it makes me blind

This feels like crazy thinking
It feels a bit insane
'Cause I act like I'm in the know
And that you hardly know anything
Wouldn't it be something if we could
Learn to understand
Knowledge begs for questioning
When it's the truth you demand

I judge myself by my intentions
You I judge by your actions
That is why I believe
We're on opposing sides
I judge myself by my intentions
You I judge by your actions
Do you see the hypocrisy
Oh it makes me blind
Oh it makes me blind

This feels a bit dishonest
It feels just like a lie
'Cause I act like I'm listening
When you patiently explain your side
Wouldn't it be something if we could
Hear what isn't said and
Recognize that all that noise
Sounds the same in the end

I judge myself by my intentions
You I judge by your actions
That is why I believe
We're on opposing sides
I judge myself by my intentions
You I judge by your actions
Do you see the hypocrisy
Oh it makes me blind
Oh it makes me blind
