Cheryl Branz: Music

Branches

(Cheryl Branz)
Inspired by a line I read in an Anne Lamott novel where the narrator finds a dead bird in the yard and is told a folklore tale about how you should put it back in the branches of a tree. I loved that idea.

Barely breathing I whisper your name
And I feel you at my side
Take my hand I am not afraid
Every living thing must die

Bury me
In the branches of the highest tree
So I'll, I'll be closer to the sky
Laid to rest
Where I can put my new wings to the test
And you , you won't have to sit and cry
You can watch me fly

Gentle breezes will kiss my face
I'll be alone but I'll be safe
Lullabies from rustling leaves
And the tree limbs will sway me to sleep

Bury me
In the branches of the highest tree
So I'll, I'll be closer to the sky
Laid to rest
Where I can put my new wings to the test
And you , you won't have to sit and cry
You can watch me fly

Soaring through the clouds
And the wind is rushing 'round
I look down below
I see you wave as I go

Bury me
In the branches of the highest tree
So I'll, I'll be closer to the sky
Laid to rest
Where I can put my new wings to the test
And you , you won't have to sit and cry
You can watch me fly
